Business NAME Generator

About the Project

Project Introduction

This tool uses artificial intelligence to provide business names that also have an available domain name. Users enter keywords about their business and the AI provides a list of names. Results can be filtered by a variety of domain extensions.

The Challenge

Users looking to start businesses need a business name, and having a custom domain name has almost become a requirement to even compete. This tool seeks to do both. Previous frameworks of the Business Name Generator had multiple steps that did not improve the quality of the results and left users confused as to why they entered personalized information without getting personalized results.

The Solution

The final solution was to deliver a streamlined, no nonsense user flow (especially on mobile) that provided valuable results. We wanted an easy to use interface that allowed users to find exactly what they wanted quickly, but also allowed for some exploration and creativity.

User Personas

  • Who is Bonnie?

Bonnie is retired after 34 years working for the DMV but has always run a cottage food business selling honey out of her home. Now that her kids are grown, she plans to put more time into it and use this business to supplement her retirement income. She is not very tech savvy but with the help of her daughter in law, she can figure most things out.

    What are Bonnie’s main goals?

Bonnie is looking for a business name that also has an available domain name. She wants a name that is witty and memorable so that she can begin to reach more customers and grow her business.

What is Bonnie’s main barrier to achieving these goals?

She has been doing some brainstorming on her own but every time she tries to think of ideas, she comes up blank. On top of that, she hasn’t found a reliable way to search for business names AND domain names.

Changes and Reasoning

  • Capped the number of TLDs displayed

    • Most users will be looking for the standard .com domain and the tradeoff of a busier interface was not worth displaying 42 TLDs.
